Spring is a busy time of year in the orchards.
Our packing facilities and cold storages are undergoing a thorough deep cleaning before we begin the new season - repairing and sanitizing the machinery, cleaning all the storage totes, and other general maintenance.
And in the fields things are picking up rather quickly. The buds on the trees are all bursting open, with swarms of bees released among the trees to pollinate the blossoms. Leaf nodes begin to unfurl along the branches and everything seems to be waking up again. There’s grafting, spring planting, bloom thinning, and various other tasks to be done during this stage. And the ever present threat of hail competes in farmers’ minds with the desire for more rainfall to irrigate the crops this summer. And with hail comes the booming of the hail cannons. La primavera es un tiempo muy ocupado del año en los huertos.
Nuestros empaques y los almacenes de frío se le están haciendo una profunda limpieza antes de empezar la nueva temporada. En los empaques se esta haciendo reparación y desinfección a la maquinaria.
Y en los campos las cosas están mejorando rápidamente. Las capullos de los árboles están abriendo, con un enjambre de abejas liberadas entre los árboles para polinizar las flores. Los nodos de hoja comienzan a desplegarse a lo largo de las ramas y todo parece estar despertando de nuevo. Se esta injertando, sembrando, el adelgazamiento de flor, y otras tareas que se realizan durante esta etapa. Y la amenaza siempre presente de granizo en la mente de los agricultores con el deseo de más lluvia para el riego de los cultivos este verano. Y con granizo viene el auge de los cañones antigranizo.
