Apricots

Each year I anxiously await the arrival of the first apricots of the season. There is something so wonderful about their tangy sweetness and the way you can pull them in half with your fingers. I had a tree of them that grew in the orchard outside of my window growing up and it is almost magical watching them slowly transform from fuzzy lime green stones into succulent honey-orange orbs. It reminds me of riding around with my dad in his pick-up truck when I was little, changing valves and checking trees; listening to the breeze rustle the leaves and the crickets begin to chirp; and the coolness of spring gently welcoming the warmth of summer. All the promises of no school and the freedom of the outdoors could be contained in that pocket-sized piece of fruit. I hope you enjoy the season as much as I do!
